ABOUT
Little Lapis, an aspiring literary and art magazine, seeks student work from
Livingston, MT which reaches for deeper thought, meaning, or exposes something - beauty where beauty is not expected, universal human truths, your motives, someone else’s motives. We despise fluff and clutter. Swoon us with your favorite, impassioned work. Make it our favorite too. Remember, you owe reality nothing and the truth about your feelings everything. Be emotionally honest.
We accept short stories, poems, prose, 2D fine arts (paintings, drawings, photography), book/theater/movie/music/band reviews. We only accept work from Livingston, MT students. Please see submit your work.
Currently, select work is displayed on the home page "preview" issue.
With consideration of number of submissions and funding, a printed magazine will be compiled and distributed to local businesses.
Why Little Lapis?
Little comes from the "little magazines" defined by their "small readership,
financial fragility, and artistic innovation" (Barsanti 1). Amateurs, usually artists/writers themselves, edited the small mags. They often pushed against the general tide of the public. In The Savoy (1896, London), edited by Arthur Symons, writers stabbed at the current Victorian materialism. Though culture has changed since then, due to obvious technological advancements, materialism reigns, maybe even more so. Perhaps it can be offset by this magazine, a fantastical blend of students' freewheeling creativity.
Lapis is the editor's favorite stone. Lapis Lazuli is the crystal of truth and aids to
unveil suppressed emotions and memories. It therefore promotes self-awareness and acceptance of the self. This is the magazine I want Little Lapis to be, one that explores and reveals inner truth, in the authors/artists and their readers.
